Wedding Website: Sharing the News

So, when Arlie and I first got engaged, the only place I knew to go was The Knot.  I knew they did wedding stuff and while on their website I found the information about creating a wedding website using one of their template designs.  So after setting up my profile, I got to work on the site.

Not sure of my wedding colors at the time, I picked a template in the colors of what I thought they might by (chocolate brown and pink).  I quickly filled in the details for each of the sections and uploaded some photos and sat my laptop in front of Arlie for review.  He had a bunch of edits, grammatical corrections, and elaborations to make.  All I could think at the time was that he obviously did not understand the immediacy of getting our site live.  I mean the world needed to know that Aisha was engaged!

In any event, after we both were okay with the site, I published it and sent the link to close family and friends.  I have since updated it with the recent information regarding our wedding and reception sites.  Arlie has taken to sharing it with co-workers and likes that he does not have to retell our whole story every time someone finds out that he is engaged.  I like it because, like this blog, it acts as a journal for this event in my life.

Our wedding colors are now chocolate brown and lavender and the site is getting some additional viewers from the curious, but it is all okay.  I do not mind sharing my good fortune with the world.  Check out the site and let me know what you think – http://www.theknot.com/ourwedding/AishaHolmes&ArliePonds !

Working the Room

One of the more challenging tasks of planning a wedding is deciding who to invite. I assumed this would be fairly easy for us, since I have a relatively small family and Arlie’s is about medium sized. I was not ready for…

What’s in a date?

Even with my wedding over a year way, my Pastor and I still had to do quite a bit of back and forth with possible dates. And then I had to compare those dates with the availability of the venue location, my fiancé’s preferences, and the time of year – only to come up with two weekends that would work for all of us. It was an interesting process to say the least.

Filling in the details…lights, camera, action!

Now, that I have selected the location for the reception and wedding ceremony, what’s next you ask?

Cookie-cutter venues…when you want a cupcake!

Well, I have decided on a location for the wedding and reception, but before I share that bit of great news I want to discuss another aspect of my wedding search. The knot provides location based search criteria for vendors in most categories and it has proven to be helpful. Not knowing who offered what, their database proved to be a great place to start. Now while I realize you can search for the issue I am about to discuss via their Blog, I did not during this process and am suggesting now that if this applies to you then you should.

From Dreams to Reality…in search of a venue

The search continues…While I have not given up hope, I am getting really tired. At this point I have a renewed determination to find a location/venue for my wedding. I have to admit when I started this process, I was a bit naïve about costs, features and functions that spaces offer and how particular each venue would be about the use of their facilities. I do not plan for guests to swing from chandeliers or tear up the place with alcohol and loud music – I guess you still need to have a plan in place in case something like that does happen.

Picking a People Person…that YOU like!

People please!! So, aside from selecting a venue, I also need to find a wedding planner – and I use need loosely. I would like to have someone tend to the details the weekend of the wedding so that I can enjoy myself with my husband, family and friends.

In Search of a Venue

Location, Location, Location….So, I have visited nine locations to date. While all have not been bad, they have not been “The One” either. All of the professionals have told me this is the hardest part of the planning process that once I have the venue booked everything else will fall into place. I cannot wait for this to happen.
